Magic.
What does the word conjure up for you? Witches? Wizards? Fairy god mothers? Harry Potter?
Do you believe in magic or do you believe it’s only found in fairy tales?
Call me a hopeless romantic, but I believe in magic and miracles. To me, magic is living outside of limitations and expectations. It’s believing in the unseen. It’s trusting that anything is possible.
I don’t think that life is supposed to be ordinary. We aren’t meant to sit in a cubicle 10+ hours a day, bored out of our minds, dreaming of the day when our retirement account will get fat enough for us to actually start living life.
We are meant to push boundaries.
Risk it all in the name of following our passion.
Break away from the humdrum of the pack and create our own way.
Embrace our authenticity without fear.
Do what we love.
Sounds great, right? So why isn’t everyone living a magical life?
FEAR - We’re taught to be afraid of meandering from our straight and narrow path. It’s beat into us that we simply must follow the rules, mores, customs, and traditions, or disaster will strike. Of course, it’s all well-meaning and necessary to a point, but when followed too strictly, it stifles our creativity, ingenuity, and authenticity. We are taught that it’s bad to be different. Bad to challenge the status quo. Bad to do things our own way.
As we grow into adulthood, we make choices according to this programming. We wake up somewhere in our mid-30s (or 40s or 50s) and think “WTF? How did I get here? I took a wrong turn somewhere because I feel like something is missing. I’m not as happy as I should be and I don’t know how to fix it.”
Sound familiar?
This is the turning point. This is where magic starts to seep in. You experience a longing for something that you can’t put your finger on, a glimpse of glitter in the darkness. You’ll notice that an idea pops into your head, seemingly from nowhere. A long-retired dream from childhood surprises you with an appearance and you can’t seem to shake it. Strange synchronicities that seem too meaningful to be mere coincidences.
What is happening and why now? You’re finally established in your career. You have a nice stock plan, good benefits, and are climbing up the ladder. You’re married to a person who looks great on paper with 2.2 kids. Why can’t you just be happy where you’re at?
This is a very significant choice point in life. One option is to choose to shut the door on the come-hither glittery light that’s beckoning to you, and tell yourself that it’s an impossible, stupid, reckless dream. You could throw yourself into your work even more and try to shut out the nagging call to adventure.
Or, sometimes the Universe isn’t content to let us ignore the call and gives us a love-tap off the cliff. This can happen through an illness, accident, divorce, or job-loss. Something major that you can’t possibly ignore.
A third option is to feel the fear, summon the courage, and do it anyway.
One of the questions that can haunt us as we consider taking a step towards change is the question, “what if I fail?” This one question can be so menacing that it can send us high-tailing it in the opposite direction where we remain stuck and powerless.
So...what if you do fail?
It is my philosophy that we are meant to be courageous and to take risks in life. Every step forward, every “failure” and every success offers us the opportunity to learn and grow. That’s what life is all about! I choose to experience all that life has to offer with love, passion, and joy!
I CHOOSE TO BELIEVE IN MAGIC!
How about you?
If you are ready to step out of monotony and into magic, drop me a line and let’s talk. I’ve been through the whole jump-off-a-cliff-and-into-magic process and know that it’s not for the faint of heart. It takes a lot of courage to face the fear and a lot of Soul-searching to overcome the programming. However, the experience can be much smoother with a coach like me to guide you and support you through the process. I'd love to help you create a magical life!
Love and Light,
Lara
